A few weeks back I posted this image on Instagram featuring some of my favorite beauty products for summer- I figured a post elaborating on each item would be a lot more helpful- so here it is!
Sunscreen- This is a no-brainer for the summer, especially for me (my skin tone is practically translucent and skin cancer runs in my family). Being that this is something I use every day, I’ve had a lot of hits and misses when it comes to finding the right one. This one by IT Cosmetics is my absolute favorite- it’s tinted and offers quite a bit of coverage, so some days I’ll slap this on as my base and omit foundation entirely. If you prefer something a bit heavier, you can use this as a primer underneath your makeup. The best part? It stays on all day and has an SPF of 50. If you prefer something without a tint, another great sunscreen is by Elta MD– it was recommended to me by my dermatologist, is lightweight, and won’t break you out.
Primer- I have combination skin that tends to get oiler in the summertime. This primer by Becca is great because it keeps my shine from peeking through all day long. The texture is almost sticky, and I apply it by patting instead of rubbing, which took some getting used to because I usually go for primers with a silicone-y texture. If you have dry skin, I wouldn’t recommend this primer unless you use a heavier moisturizer underneath, because it could dry you out even more.
Blush + Bronzer- This palette by Becca is something I’ve been reaching for all summer long. All of the colors are just perfect, which is something really hard to find when it comes to palettes (in my opinion). The bronzer is a nice warm brown (without leaning orange), the blush is a perfect peachy pink with a hint of shimmer, and the highlight is their classic opal highlight. If you’re not into palettes, or find the colors don’t work for your skin tone, you can purchase each item separately (except the blush- I think that’s limited edition). I find that when I’m traveling I just grab this and use the bronzer as eyeshadow to save up some luggage space!
Another blush I have been obsessed with is the Nars Matte Multiple in the color Siam. It’s a bright poppy red- a little intimidating when you first see it, but blended out it just looks like the most natural, sun kissed blush. I use this when I’m going for a more natural look, or when I feel like playing around with some faux freckles. To apply it, I use a brush by IT Cosmetics and dab on my cheeks.
Eyes- 80% of the time, I have eyelash extensions on, so I really try to keep it simple with my eye makeup. My go-to eye look is a cream shadow by Mac called Groundwork. It’s the perfect neutral brown for an everyday look, and super easy to use. If I’m going for something a little more glam, I’ll use a shadow with glitter in it- my current favorites are Catnap and Nillionaire by Colourpop. Super affordable and so beautiful- both are brown shades with different color sparkles. I just apply some with my finger to the center of my lids, and if I want to brighten up my inner corner, I’ll dab some of the Becca Opal from the palette mentioned above.
